Misfits Analysis

1. What stereotypes/characters do we find in Misfits? Well, Nathan who is the main 'Misfit' is a cheeky Irish  young adult who has an answer for everything. Curtis is a runner that was caught with cocaine hence the reason he's doing community service. Curtis thinks he's better than the other misfits and hates the fact that he has to do community service. Kelly is a chavvy, aggressive girl that has no problem bottling up her thoughts and feelings. Alisha is a pure slut. She tries to attract every guy she wants into sleeping with her and from what we see succeeds the majority of the time. Last of all there's Gary who is similar to Kelly in that he is aggressive and isn't afraid to bottle up his thoughts.

2. How are these stereotypes created? Nathan's stereotype is created mainly from the way he talks to people. He always has a cocky or cheeky response to anything anyone says whether it be about him or not. Curtis' stereotype is also created through his dialogue as we can see from when he says on numerous occasions 'I shouldn't be here'. Kelly's stereotype is created in the way she dresses as well as the way she speaks to people. She cakes herself in makeup and ties her hair back so tight that it pulls the skin on her face back. We can see how Alisha is a slut also from the way she dresses. She, like Kelly, wears a tonne of makeup and also makes sure her top is very low-cut. Gary shows the kind of person that he is also because of the way he dresses and speaks.. He is always wearing a flat-cap which shows how he is a chav. We see his chavvy and aggressive ways at the very beginning of the series when he threatens to stab Nathan.

3. In the second clip how have the representations changed? Are they still the same stereotypes? In the second clip we see Nathan at home with his Mum and her partner of whom he despises. In this particular clip Nathan is standing very quietly instead of saying something cocky, as usual. We see Curtis sitting in his bedroom watching and rewinding videos of him winning a race from when he was a successful runner. We can see that he has regrets instead of thinking he is better than anyone else. Alisha is getting dressed up in front of the mirror but we see her with a sad look on her face and she takes out her ear-ring which shows that she doesn't want to go out and be her usual slaggy self. Kelly is shown wiping the ridiculous amounts of makeup away from her face which shows she has realized doesn't need the stupid amounts of makeup.

4. What representation of youth do we get from these two clips? From these two clips we see that SOME youth are rude and arrogant. We also see that the youth of today are very judgmental and have lot's of different stereotypes.
