Britpop - Radio

For radio there is online radio stations such as Panic Radio and Radionomy. Both of these stations play britpop music. Also NME radio plays alot of britpop music when DJ Chris Martin is on. Also Last.fm is available for Britpop. You can type in Britpop and it will play you a mixture of popular britpop artists including Oasis, Richard Ashcroft, Ian Brown and The Stone Roses.

Britpop - TV & Films

The 3 most famous films including a britpop culture are: Trainspotting, The Full Monty and Lock Stock & two Smoking barrels. These films also have a britpop soundtrack. We know that they have a britpop culture because of the characters in the films.

There's Social Realism (kitchen sink dramas) and Britpop. Kitchen sink dramas are dramas related to British cultural movement. Usually the "Heroes" in kitchen sink dramas were Angry Young Men.

Britpop - Related Celebrities

Some celebrities related to britpop are actors such as James Buckley because he is into the britpop scene but is not a musician. He acted in the Inbetweeners where he played a character who also was a typical britpop lad.

Another related celebrity is Kate Moss because she was in a relationship with britpop icon Pete Doherty but they have now split.

Britpop - Clothing

For research into the britpop genre I have learnt about the style of clothing that britpop artists wear.

There is a particular label that specialise in britpop clothing called "Pretty Green". This brand was founded and designed by Liam Gallagher of Oasis. They sell mainly Polo Shirts, Denim Jeans, Parkas and knitwear.

Nick Drake - Pink Moon Album Covers

I had to make an album cover for an album of my choice from a list of 100 different albums called Becks 100 album covers project. I chose to do Pink Moon by Nick Drake. We had to make 3 different versions of the album cover with different kinds of text on each one. Originally I did a cover which had lots of leaves and butterflys on it which made it look very natural but after having trouble with the butterfly brushes I decided to go for a moon brush and change the colour to make it pink. With the butterflys I couldn't seem to make it look very interesting and the brushes weren't working very well together.

From this project I learnt not to delete any previous work and to keep it even if I change my mind about what i'm doing and start again. This is because the work i've done and want to change I can use as evidence to show what i've done.

These are the three album covers I created for Nick Drake's "Pink Moon".

This is the original album cover for "Pink Moon".

Random Album Cover

I made an album cover for a band on Photoshop. We had to get a random page from Wikipedia to have a name for our band. We had to get a random quotation and use the last 3 or 4 words from the quote to use as an album name. For the cover of our album we had to get a random picture from flickr and use that. We used photoshop to edit it and uploaded it to flickr.

On Photoshop I edited our album artwork to make it look interesting and abstract. The picture I got was of a Sea landscape of which I edited by using a sketch effect on Photoshop. From the image I got I thought the band would be an acoustic/pop band so I used a font to show that. I thought that the band would be an acoustic/pop band because the image I got was a very natural image. It is very simple and theres not too much going on. It's not a picture of somewhere like a rushing city with lots of people but instead its a picture of somewhere that looks quite lonely and isolated.

From this small project I learnt that I need to make the text clearer so it can be read easier. The text is a grey colour on a dark background which makes it look unclear.

Farmville/Cityville Research - Consumption

The creators of Farmville and Cityville are a company called Zynga. It was created by Mark Pincus in 2007 to enable social gaming. Farmville and Cityville are two of Zyngas most successful games. It's free to play but to get extra cash it is optional to pay for it with real money. Both Farmville and Cityville have had positive reviews because it's so easy to play and is very addictive. On Farmville there are over 80 million players and on Cityville there are 48 million players with suspicions that it will become more successful than Farmville. It is played Casually and Socially in that you can befriend people from Facebook as "Neighbours" and post achievments on your Facebook Wall. Both games allow you to create your own experiences of becoming a successful farmer and a successful city mayor.
