Nick Drake - Pink Moon Album Covers

I had to make an album cover for an album of my choice from a list of 100 different albums called Becks 100 album covers project. I chose to do Pink Moon by Nick Drake. We had to make 3 different versions of the album cover with different kinds of text on each one. Originally I did a cover which had lots of leaves and butterflys on it which made it look very natural but after having trouble with the butterfly brushes I decided to go for a moon brush and change the colour to make it pink. With the butterflys I couldn't seem to make it look very interesting and the brushes weren't working very well together.

From this project I learnt not to delete any previous work and to keep it even if I change my mind about what i'm doing and start again. This is because the work i've done and want to change I can use as evidence to show what i've done.

These are the three album covers I created for Nick Drake's "Pink Moon".

This is the original album cover for "Pink Moon".

This is the image that someone made of "Pink Moon" for Becks 100 album covers project.

Random Album Cover

I made an album cover for a band on Photoshop. We had to get a random page from Wikipedia to have a name for our band. We had to get a random quotation and use the last 3 or 4 words from the quote to use as an album name. For the cover of our album we had to get a random picture from flickr and use that. We used photoshop to edit it and uploaded it to flickr.

On Photoshop I edited our album artwork to make it look interesting and abstract. The picture I got was of a Sea landscape of which I edited by using a sketch effect on Photoshop. From the image I got I thought the band would be an acoustic/pop band so I used a font to show that. I thought that the band would be an acoustic/pop band because the image I got was a very natural image. It is very simple and theres not too much going on. It's not a picture of somewhere like a rushing city with lots of people but instead its a picture of somewhere that looks quite lonely and isolated.

From this small project I learnt that I need to make the text clearer so it can be read easier. The text is a grey colour on a dark background which makes it look unclear.

Farmville/Cityville Research - Consumption

The creators of Farmville and Cityville are a company called Zynga. It was created by Mark Pincus in 2007 to enable social gaming. Farmville and Cityville are two of Zyngas most successful games. It's free to play but to get extra cash it is optional to pay for it with real money. Both Farmville and Cityville have had positive reviews because it's so easy to play and is very addictive. On Farmville there are over 80 million players and on Cityville there are 48 million players with suspicions that it will become more successful than Farmville. It is played Casually and Socially in that you can befriend people from Facebook as "Neighbours" and post achievments on your Facebook Wall. Both games allow you to create your own experiences of becoming a successful farmer and a successful city mayor.

Evaluation part 7

I think by doing the preliminary task we learnt alot about different camera shots/angles. For example one of the main shots we learnt about when doing the preliminary task was Match-On-Action. This is where you film someone walking through a door for example by filming them walking up to the door from behind and then filming them coming through the door from inside the room. This creates the effects of seeing someone walk through the door very smoothly and we used it both when my character was in the park and in the courtyard.

Another shot we learnt about and used in the preliminary task was the 180 degree rule. This is where your filming two or more people having a conversation by recording the conversation from an Over the Shoulder shot of one of the people and then recording the conversation again with an Over the Shoulder shot from the other person. After it's recorded you have to edit it by taking out parts of the conversation where you can't see the person who's talkings face. This makes it look like the camera is flicking between the two people who are conversing.

Evaluation part 6

We have taken pictures of what equipment we used for our media product. These pictures show us holding the camera we used and the tripod we used for the filming.

On the macbook we used Final Cut Express, Adobe After Effects and Photoshop.

With the camera we filmed all of our footage and with the tripod we held the camera still on the majority of our shots.

Evaluation part 5

For part 5 of our Evaluation we had to add speech bubbles to our video on youtube containing information about why we did things in a particular way. Below is a link to part 5 of the Evaluation.
