Evaluation Question 4

Above is a picture I put together on photoshop of all the equipment we used and websites we used. The website include Facebook for getting feedback on our video, Youtube for doing research into our genre and Blogger for posting blogs throughout the project. The equipment we used includes a Light Stand for holding up the lights at the side of the stage when recording our video, a tripod for holding the camera still for when we were recording, the HD Camera to get quality high - definition footage, the camera tape to store all the footage recorded on the camera, the lights to light the stage as we wanted it to be and the macbook for editing all the footage together to create our video.

With Final Cut Express on the Macbook we were able to edit together different pieces of footage together from the recording we did on the college stage. We managed to do different transitions to cut between different shots such as fade in and fade out. Also we were able to put Nathaniel's bass playing in slow motion in parts of the video.

The reason for the use of Facebook was so that we could create a group and invite members to give feedback on our video. This was successful as we had different people offering different opinions on the video and different ways we could improve it. Also we could post other things such as our magazine advert and our Digipaks on there so that members of the group could give feedback on those to. Although it's not on the picture I created on photoshop I also used the social networking site "Myspace" to e - mail Little Man Tate to let them know we were using there song in our music video. I had to create an account to be able to do this so you can view my page at www.myspace.com/christianjonesonline

The HD Camera and the other physical equipment we used for our video were also of great use to create our music video. At first we recorded several different shots with the HD Camera without it being on the HD setting. It was a rookie mistake so we decided to re - record the whole thing but with the camera obviously on the HD setting. The lights were really good also. We thought we would need more than two lights for the video but because we were recording each shot individually (For example recording the vocals first and then the guitar and then the bass etc.) we were able to move the lights around sufficiently. We attached the lights to the light stands so we could adjust the height of the lights to how we wanted them to be. The tripod was really useful to hold the camera still. If we didn't have a tripod to use we would have to of done hand - held shots which would mean the camera wouldn't be still whilst recording. Therefore the tripod was really useful. The macbook was also hugely important because without it we would have nothing to edit the clips together with. Also if we didn't have the macbook we wouldn't be able to use the social networking site to get the feedback from people.

I think the most important piece of equipment used that is shown above is the lights. The reason these were so useful was because we could light the video as if we were an actual band performing in a music video. The idea to have the lights the way we did came from the video of "Sorry" by a band called Life In Film.

Evaluation Question 3

We got feedback from several different sources. One of those sources was getting feedback by creating a Facebook group and posting the video on there and letting our friends comment on it. People said they really liked the opening when the camera pans up from my guitar to my face singing into the microphone. People also liked that it was in black & white and that it looked like a genuine performance. However, the main negative feedback was that there was only one angle of me singing. Also a few transactions didn't work very well.

When we asked the teachers for feedback on our video they said that it perhaps needed a few more different camera angles to make it interesting. Instead of re -filming what we did is added more footage from other shots to mix it around a bit more and have quicker cuts. This technique is used to keep the viewer interested in the video.

With the feedback we got, we decided to take it on board and use it to make our video better. The way we did that was by having more shots of us in front of the Union Jack. This made our video look more interesting and it had more of a theme that it was following. Also by doing this the video had a wider range of shots which also makes the video more interesting for the viewer to watch.

For my digipak I got feedback from the teachers saying that to make it into the comic book style I should give it quite a thick border. I did this and it has turned out to look more like a comic book than it did without. With the digipak I wanted to go for the comic book/football theme. To do this I needed people from my class to pretend they were in a football team so I could get a realistic picture for the front cover. We borrowed the school football kit and a football from the school.

Evaluation Question 2

On the top left of this image is the front cover for my digipack. On the top right is my advertisement poster. In the middle is Stephen playing drums. On the bottom left is Nathaniel and bottom right is myself. I think that my digipack and poster goes with the video because the theme for the digipack is football which is the kind of game that three young lads in a britpop band are into. The two pictures towards the bottom are Nathaniel in front of the British flag and myself in front of the british flag. The reason I chose these pictures to compare with my digippack and advertisement is because football is traditionally a British game and we were imitating a britpop band. Also the stereotype of britpop is the "Do It Yourself" style and you can see that.
Rather than having an obvious stylistic link, the combination has more of a cultural link. Britpop is primarily about stories of working class life told by working class musicians. To evoke this idea on the digipak I chose the whole Sunday League football imagery in the style of the comic book "Roy of The Rovers". This is a cultural combination with Britpop because it's very much a young man's game and the comic book is very much a young mans source of entertainment.

Evaluation Question 1 - Part 3

For the third part of question 1 we have to show comparisons with our digipack and other albums. For the front cover of my Digipack I have compared it with Robbie Williams' "Sing When Your Winning". The reason that my front cover is similar to Robbie Williams' is because they are both based around the football/sports theme. As you can see in mine the ball is set up ready to be taken for a free kick and in Robbie Williams' he has already won and is celebrating victory. My digipack cover is also themed around a comic book style.

On the left is the disck for the Arctic Monkeys album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's what I'm Not". On the right is the inside cover for my digipack. They are similar because my digipack relates to it's front cover because it's a football and the theme of the digipack is football. The Arctic Monkeys disk relates to the front cover of their album because on the front cover is a guy smoking and the on the disk is a picture of an ashtray.

Evaluation Question 1 - Part 2

Picture 1 - I chose "Headbutt" by The King Blues for my first screen shot. The reason I chose this part of the video is because at this point in the song the lead singer sings "I said to all my mates she won't make a monkey out of me" and there is a monkey sitting right next to him which a very literal relation between the lyrics and the video.

Picture 2 - For the second screen shot I chose "Single Ladies" by Beyonce. The reason I chose this video was because I think the record company would want to show that Beyonce is a sexy, beautiful woman and by putting her in this video that's how she's represented. Also she is strong and independent.

Picture 3 - For this screen shot I chose "Yeah" by Usher. The reason I chose this video was because Usher is an R&B artist and R&B artists are always quite slick and well dressed and very good at dancing like Usher is in this video.

Picture 4 - I chose "You're Gonna Lose Us" by The Cribs. The reason I chose this video is because it shows intertextual reference with the television program "The Word". On "The Word" they had performances on the stage that The Cribs were playing on for this music video. Also in the video the song is introduced by the presenter of "The Word" - Terry Christian.

Picture 5 - I chose "Grenade" by Bruno Mars for my fifth screen shot. I chose this shot because at this point in the video the camera is in a car that is driving by and in the frame is Bruno Mars pulling his piano along the street. The camera is from the point of view of someone driving the car.

Picture 6 - I chose "Empire State of Mind" by Jay - Z and Alicia Keys for my sixth screen shot. I chose this shot because the lighting is a simple spotlight on Jay - Z in the middle of performing. It's a really good shot because the viewer can only see the silhouette of Jay - Z and the audience behind him.

Picture 7 - For the seventh screen shot I chose "Runaway" by Devlin and Yasmin. I chose this particular screen shot from the video because the Mis - en - Scene is Devlin standing in a council estate rapping. He is wearing a shirt buttoned up all the way which is the kind of the thing he would wear being a young lad.

Picture 8 - For the eighth screen shot I used the video that was the main influence on our music video. "Sorry" by Life In Film. I chose this particular shot because it is very similar to the side angle shot of myself singing into the microphone.

Picture 9 - For the ninth screen shot I chose "Supersonic" by Oasis. I chose this because the video is in Black and White like ours. Also Oasis were one of the main influences for us because we chose to do a Britpop song for our music video.

Evaluation Question 1 - Part 1

Picture 1 - For this image we had to choose a shot that showed a relation between the lyrics and/or music with our video. I chose two screen shots that I think do that. The shots I chose cut between each other during the bridge in the song. The lyrics for the bridge are as if the lead singer is having an argument with his girlfriend so we thought it would be a good idea to have the video swapping between myself and Nathaniel to look as though we were having the argument.

Picture 2 - For this image I chose a shot of Nathaniel playing bass with his hair covering his face and the camera at low angle looking up. The reason I chose this shot is because I think a record company would want the artist to be represented as four young lads just picking up guitars and playing almost anything so with Nathaniel having his hair covering his face it makes it look a bit scruffy which is the kind of representation I think a record company would want to give from this particular song. AUTHENTICITY

Picture 3 - This shot I chose because I think it demonstrates our music genre (britpop) by showing myself simply performing in front of a microphone. Quite often britpop music videos have just the band performing on stage similar to our video. For example, the main influence for our style of video which was by a band called Life In Film and the video was for a song called "Sorry".

Picture 4 - For this shot the intertextual reference comes from "Sorry" by Life In Film. At the beginning of their video they have a very similar shot to the one I chose for my 4th key frame. This is also similar to the famous britpop band, The Smiths who have pretty much all of their album covers in black and white. I have referred to The Smiths because our video and the Life In Film video are both in black and white. The Smiths often referenced Kitchen Sink Dramas from the sixties that told stories of working class life - much like the song we chose. These sixties films such as Billy Liar and Saturday Night Sunday Morning used a naturalistic black and white style, something that our video also uses.

This is an example of one of The Smiths album covers

Picture 5 - I chose this shot for the fifth key frame because I needed to demonstrate the use of camerawork. This shot demonstrates the use of how we used the camera because for this particular shot we just had the camera zoomed in on the guitar. This is similar to Blurs "Song 2" when they zoom in on Graham Coxon playing his guitar.

Picture 6 - For the sixth key frame I chose a similar shot as the one I chose for the third shot. The reason for this was because you can see that only part of my face is lit up. This demonstrates the way we chose to have the lighting. We didn't want the stage to be to bright because we wanted it to be similar to other videos we had seen. What we did was put one light on the side of the stage and another light on the other side so that my face was lit up only from one side. Again this is similar to the video for "Sorry" by Life In Film.

Picture 7 - I chose the shot of myself in front of the Union Jack for the seventh shot because the Union Jack was a huge part of our Mis - en - Scene. Alex painted a Union Jack on to an old bed sheet which was in a britpop style because a big part of britpop is the whole "Do it Yourself" element. The reason we chose to paint a Union Jack is simply because we were making a video as if we were a britpop band and therefore wanted to have the British flag. This is a major part of Britpop as it was a symbol used very heavily in the sixties Mod culture, which is was precursor to the Britpop scene. Rather than having any right wing connotations, it is more to do with patriotism and cultural pride.

Picture 8 - I think the eighth picture shows that we have watched other music videos because in alot the picture is of myself playing my guitar. This shows that we have watched other music videos because in most britpop videos they will have the actual band playing and not actors acting out a story. There is an emphasis on a 'live' performance in order to create the idea of authenticity in terms of the band - this is a group that creates their own music, there is nothing fabricated or manufactured.

Picture 9 - Similar to the eighth picture. I chose this picture again because it shows Nathaniel playing his bass guitar. This is like alot of other britpop videos where they actually show the band playing there instruments instead of actors and actresses acting out a story.

The Cribs - Mens Needs. In this video The Cribs are also playing their instruments like alot of other Britpop music videos.

Technical Analysis - Red Hot Chili Peppers Live in Milan "By The Way"

There is one location for this video and that is in Milan where the Red Hot Chili Peppers are playing live. The band don't have a specific costume but when they play live the do normally have a specific look that they where. There are four performers in the video and they are just the members of the band. Flea (Michael Balzary on Bass), Anthony Kiedis (Vocals), Chad Smith (Drums) and John Frusciante <3 (Guitar).

Above is the Red Hot Chili Peppers L - R = Flea (Michael Balzary), Anthony Kiedis, Chad Smith and John Frusciante

The video starts off with a close-up on Anthony Kiedis whilst the introductory guitar chords are playing. As Kiedis comes in with the singing the camera jumps to an angle where Flea, John Frusciante, Chad Smith and Anthony Kiedis are in the shot from a side-angle. During this first verse it changes back to close up of Anthony Kiedis and then has a long shot of John Frusciante and Anthony Kiedis. As soon as it goes into the heavy bass line that everybody loves the camera zooms in on Flea jumping round and switching between him and Anthony Kiedis. Occasionally the camera jumps to a zoomed in shot of John Frusciante's beautiful guitar (Fender Stratocaster - Sunburst). The editing is just jumping between the band members on different beats of the song. There is a pattern to the editing because when there is fast up-beat parts of the song the editing switches between different band members quite quickly whereas when there are the slower parts of the song it focuses on just 1 or 2 members of the band. What we can learn from this video is to edit it differently in different parts of the song for example when it gets to the chorus edit between shots a bit quicker than in the verses.

Contacting Little Man Tate

I sent an e-mail to Little Man Tate saying that we used there song for our music video. Unfortunately they haven't responded but they might do in the future. I mentioned who we were and why we were making the video. We also said we would send them a copy of the final cut when it's finished.

Extra Footage

Me and Nathaniel shot some extra footage and were planning to upload it and put it into final cut but the tape that we recorded the extra footage was broken so we couldn't upload it. We plan to re-record this extra footage with a different tape so we can successfully upload it and edit it in Final cut with our video.

Facebook Group

I created a Facebook group with our music video on it today entitled "Christain, Nathaniel and Alex's music video. Feedback please". The reason for this FB group is so that people can comment on the video and give us feedback on how we can improve the video and what's good about it. So far we have had comments from Scott, Tom, Leanne and my friend James from Australia. My sister has also posted the video to her profile so that a wider range of people can see it.

Feedback

We got some feedback from the class about our music video. Positive and Negative. The positive feedback is as follows:

- Good lighting
- Good camera work
- Good performance

The negative feedback we got was:

- Slow motion perhaps doesn't work on the bass?
- When Nathan comes in to do the backing singing it looks like he comes in from nowhere
- We should have a story for our video
- We need more shots of the drummer

Goals

Goals for today (Friday 18.03.11).

Short term goal - Our short term goal is to get the guitar in the introduction synced correctly. At the moment it shows the guitar playing one part of the song when the audio file is playing a separate part to the song which makes it look out of sync. The guitarist is playing the guitar solo when it is just the introduction so it looks like the guitar is playing more than it needs to be playing.

Medium term goal - The medium term goal is to get the rest of the footage into Final Cut and to finish the editing the performance video. So far we have done the Introduction, First verse, first chorus and the beginning of the second verse. We need to finish the video with the Rest of the second verse, second chorus, guitar solo, bridge/middle 8, and final chorus.

Long term goal - Our long term goal is to have a final video that we are pleased with and Nick is pleased with uploaded to Vimeo. I think the goal is not impossible because the editing we have done so far is coming along really well. Alex is our top editor and he is doing a fantastic job of editing. Myself and Nathaniel are helping in any way we can though.

Editing 17.03.11

Today we have been continuing with the editing for our performance video that's due in tomorrow. We are having a problem with the intro though because it shows the guitar playing one part of the song when the song is actually playing a completely different part. The video shows the guitar playing the guitar solo during the introduction which makes it look wrong because the intro is a lot slower than the solo.

Wednesday 16 March 2011

Learning the Song..

I learnt the song for our music video to make it much more realistic when recording. It worked a lot better when filming because I'd learnt the lyrics to the song and I knew the guitar part. To learn the guitar chords I went on www.ultimate-guitar.com and searched the name of the song and it came up with the chords. The song is incredibly simple In the introduction the chords are G, Bm, Am, D and are the same in the verse. It changes when it gets to the pre-chorus because the chords become Em, D, Em, D, C, D, C, D and then it goes back into the chorus which is the same as the intro and verse (G, Bm, Am, D). To learn the guitar riff at the beginning I just played around the notes in the key of the song (G) and eventually found the order that the notes are played in. I didn't learn the guitar solo so I just played the chords that the rhythm guitarist plays during the solo which are again just G, Bm, Am, D.

15.03.11 Conclusion

We re-recorded the drums for our music video today. We have decided that we will need to also re-record the bass as well. The reason for this is that the clips we have of the bass are not very well lighted and are quite short. unfortunately Nathaniel didn't have his bass with him today but he's bringing it in tomorrow so we can record the bass line again. We need to sort the lighting out because it was to dark before so if we just shine it a bit higher then it should be okay.

Plan for 15.03.11

Today our plans were to start filming at 9 through until 11 but Nathan has fallen ill so we will be starting a bit later. We used an HD camera for our original recording but we didn't film it in HD so we need to re-record some of our work. Alex has bought his flag back in and I have my guitar with me. Nathan will be bringing his bass and we just need to set up the lights, microphone and drum kit so we can start recording again. This is quite unfortunate considering we have been asked to have a performance video by tomorrow.

Monday 14 March 2011

Loss of lights

We weren't able to get any lights off of the company from Dry Drayton because they didn't deliever them as they said they would. Nathaniel went to pick them up and they weren't in so he came back to College and they said they would deliver them, unfortunately they never did. We managed to get round the problem by using college lights and stands. For a mic stand we used a telescopic pole and we put a part of a drum kit on the to and taped the mic to it. This goes with the theme of Do It Yourself for Britpop.

Friday 11 March 2011

11.03.11

I left a voicemail message to the company in Dry Drayton proving that it would be within college grounds that we'd be using there equipment. We have to wait for them to get back to me and they are hopefully dropping off the equipment to the college later today. This has put a spanner to our plan of filming today because we don't know if we our going to have all the equipment.

Thursday 10 March 2011

Light Testing 10.03.11

We have tested some lights on the College stage today. We learnt how to make the video in black and white by adjusting the contrast. We had a light at the side of the stage so that half of my face was lit up and the other half was dark. This is really effective in black and white. We recorded some footage on the HD Camera which we'll be using tomorrow when we start recording.

We also too some stills of the stage so we can show where we are recording.

Monday 7 March 2011

Evaluation of Progress

Schedule - Taking photos of possible locations on Wednesday morning. On Wednesday afternoon we will be doing advanced research and sorting out the lighting for our video. On Thursday we will be filming the video and we will also be filming it on Friday morning. By Friday afternoon we should be able to start editing.

Problems - We were going to use a smoke machine that we could hire from Nathan's friend but we discovered that the smoke machine is out of order. We did some research on Safari to find out where we could hire a smoke machine from in Cambridge and conveniently on my village there is a company that can rent out smoke machines. Another problem we expect to encounter is the transportation of the drum kit. Hopefully if we get to record our video on the stage at the Junction then there will be a drum kit we can borrow from there. If we have to record our video on the College stage we are going to really struggle with getting a drum kit to use. The final problem we thought might be an issue is the lighting. We need to hire out some lights to use and sort out exactly how we need to have them and at what exact settings we need to have them on.

Location, Props and Performers - For the location we are hoping to use the junction but if that is not possible we will have to use the Community Centre in Over. If we can't use either of these we will use the College stage. For the performers we will have Alex playing drums, Myself singing and playing guitar and hopefully one of Nathan's friends from his band will be able to play bass for us while Nathan is on camera duty. For Props we need to use A Drum Kit, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar and Microphones.

Filming - We are planning to film on Thursday (All Day) ad Friday (Morning).

Editing - We hope to be able to start Editing on Friday (Afternoon) and continue on Monday next week.

The main inspiration for our video is the video for "Sorry" by "Life in Film"

Music VIdeo Treatment

A music video treatment is when production companies or directors work with the artist to form ideas. It outlines the information needed for the vide and tells the reader what the main concept is about. It also helps production companies gage the budget of the video.

3 Main Concepts

1. Performing to a live audience wether it's solo or with a band. It is focussed on the talent.

2. A Storyline i.e certain events or situations that happen in the video

3. Experimental parts such as random images that compliment the music.

Essentials

1. Location

2. Situation

3. Stories/Narrative

4. Look and Feel

5. Tone

6. Pace

7. Colour

Our treatment is an idea of us performing on a stage with a few lights and it's going to be quite dark. Because this is quite a simple setup we can use the college's stage for our recording. It's quite a medium paced song so we can edit it not really quickly but not slowly either. The lighting will mainly focus on one thing at a time so it will start with the bass and  then when the vocals come in the light will go on to the singer.

Wednesday 2 March 2011

Music Video Storyboard Timeline

We made a timeline of the song for our music video. This will help us because it shows where certain parts of the song are. We were introduced to this idea by music video producer Chris Cunningham. This will help us because it shows us where we can add cuts and edit it.

Chris Cunningham

In 1989 Chris Cunningham worked on "Spitting Image" with special effects. A year later in 1990 he went to work on "Alien 3" also doing effects. In 1994 he was working on "Judge Dredd" and contributed to the Judge Dredd magazine. Cunningham Produced 19 music videos between 1996 and 1999. In 2000 he went on to working with Commercials, Video Art and Short Films.

A technique that Chris Cunningham uses is called the graphing technique. What you have to do with the graphing technique is listen to a song and break down each individual part and picture where you can put edits. You draw a graph of what the song would look like on a timeline and write in where certain parts are that stand out.

Six Stills

I have watched six music videos and chosen my favourite shots from them. The first music video I chose was Soul To Squeeze by the beloved Red Hot Chili Peppers. The shot I chose was of the lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, singing with a load of snakes on his head. I chose this shot because it's such an interesting shot. It's a mid-shot of Kiedis singing the first line of Soul To Squeeze but he just looks so relaxed even though he has a load of snakes slithering round his head.
Anthony Kiedis in the video for "Soul To Squeeze"

The next video I chose was "Headbutt" by The King Blues. The shot I chose was a close up of the lead singer, Johnny "Itch" Fox, standing on the rooftop of a building singing the song quite aggressively because they are an aggressive band. The camera is focused on Johnny Fox but he standing slightly on the right so you can see the rest of the band in the background. Fantastic song.

Johnny "Itch" Fox singing "Headbutt"

The third video I chose was completely different to the previous two. I chose "Express Yourself" by N.W.A for my third choice. The particular shot that I chose from this video is right at the beginning when the singing first comes in. At this point the members of N.W.A are bursting through a massive piece of paper and coming into the video. The reason I chose this video is because it's quite sudden and it's a really good piece of quick editing. The song is so Old Skool and should be loved by all.
N.W.A bursting through a wall of paper at the beginning of "Express Yourself"

The fourth video I chose was another Red Hot Chili Peppers video. This time I chose the song "Can't Stop" from the "By The Way" album (Track 7). The reason I chose this particular shot was because the camera does something really interesting at the beginning during the introduction. Anthony Kiedis has his head at the end of a really long yellow tube/pipe. The camera follows the tube through and then it reaches Kiedis' head as it goes into the main guitar riff of the song. An RHCP Classic.

Anthony Kiedis at the beginning of "Can't Stop"

The fifth video I chose was another King Blues song. This time I chose "I Got Love" from the album "Save The World, Get The Girl". The shot is of the band playing in the middle of somewhere that looks perhaps like a London suburb. It shows mainly the lead singer, Johnny Fox, in the shot who also plays Ukulele in the band but also in the shot is the lead guitarist, Jamie Jazz, playing guitar. One of the best songs of the Save The World, get The Girl album.

Johnny Fox playing Ukulele and singing "I Got Love"

The final song I chose was Cascada - Because The Night (Originally by The Patti Smith Group). The shot I chose was a really high angle camera shot of the crowd at one of Cascada's concert. The light shines on the crowd and you can see just how far away the camera actually is from the crowd yet the frame is just filled with people from the crowd. I chose this shot because of the camera angle.

Final Digipack and Start of Advertisement

I finished my Digipack today and started work on my poster to advertise the album. To do the back cover for the Album I downloaded a "Handwriting Font" so it looked as though it had been written by hand. I made it to look like a teamsheet.

This is the final version of my digipack

This is the first design for the poster

Monday 14 February 2011

Digipack

I've added more to my digipack. The inside of the CD side is simply a football underneath the CD so when the customer takes the CD out they will see a football underneath. The main problem I encountered with this was getting the black background and filling the path.

As you can see on the far left is a picture of a football which will be hidden underneath the CD

Digipack Ideas

I have started work on the final copy of my Digipack. The front cover and inside left cover are done I just need to do the disc side and the back cover. On the front cover I had problems with sorting out the text such as getting a border for it and filling it in the right order. I worked over my problems and realised that it can be done by being on the rectangle tool and ctrl + click on the rectangle to fill or stroke it. I put borders round the edge of the front cover and round the inside left cover to make it stand out a bit more. I also downloaded 2 fonts from dafont.com to make the digipack look as though it's in a comic book style.

The first image on the right is the front cover and the second is the inside left cover. On the left there is two blank spaces for where the disc is going and the back cover.

Feedback

We had to give feedback to the other members of the class about the work we've been doing. I put up one of my pictures from the photo shoot and some of the feedback I got was that it was a good shot but the effect is a bit "Intense". Also someone wrote that the filter doesn't suit the genre.

This was the image that I got some feedback on

Digipack Idea

For another idea for the theme of my digipack I thought to have a Football Sunday League theme. On the front cover it would have the three band members (Nathaniel, Alex and Me) standing in a wall ready to block a free kick and someone running up to kick the ball.

On the back cover the idea was to have a team sheet that would be handwritten but instead of a list of names it would have a list of the songs on the album.

For the inside on the left I was thinking of having a photo of the inside of a changing room and three football shirts hanging up with the words "Little" "Man" "Tate" on the back of them in a row.

On the inside of the digipack on the right it would simply have a picture of some muddy football boots that aren't too fashionable but quite simple.

This video helped me too get some of these ideas:

This is the second idea i've had for the digipack. Bottom Left - Front Cover. Bottom Right - Back Cover. Top Left -  Inside Left. Top Right - Inside Right.

Digipack Ideas

I drew out an idea for the digipack for my Little Man Tate album and scanned them into photoshop. For ideas on what to do I used the research I had done and the moodboard to choose what styke to go with. For this first idea i'm goin with the mod look so it has a lot of Dark Blue and Red in it. My drawings are not very neat but then again it's only a draft :P
This is the Inside cover left (Top) and the inside cover right (Bottom) for the first idea of the album.

This is the front cover (Top) and the Back cover (Bottom) idea for the album.

Record Label Logo

We made a logo for a record label. Mine was for the britpop scene so it would sign britpop/indie bands. We had to make one version in colour and one monochrome version (Black and White).
This is the monochrome version.

This is the logo in colour.

Little Man Tate - This Must Be Love

Our song choice for our music video is "This Must Be Love" by Little Man Tate. We had to choose between this song, "We Were Aborted" by The Cribs and "Bide Your Time" by The Courteeners. It was a really tough decision but we chose to go with Little Man Tate because it seemed quite easy to make a video to. Also we looked at the Guitar and Bass tab and it looks quite easy so Nathan and Me are going to learn the Guitar and Bass part and Alex is going to play Drums so we can reenact the song.

Little Man Tate were a four piece from Sheffield who formed in 2005. They broke up in 2009. In March 2006 they were signed to V2 Records.

Mood Board

We made a Britpop mood board which has pictures of some of the typical things to do with britpop and britpop culture. The pictures I used were taken from flickr. I downloaded the text from a website and filled in the O with the brush tool to make it look like the mod logo.

Photo Shoot

We had to bring in some props to take a photo shoot of what we would look like in a britpop band. I bought in a waistcoat, white shirt and some sunglasses. We took several photos and created a contact sheet.

These are our contact sheets showing the pictures that we took.

We had to choose one photo and edit it to make it look different.

This is the photo I edited.

Britpop - Radio

For radio there is online radio stations such as Panic Radio and Radionomy. Both of these stations play britpop music. Also NME radio plays alot of britpop music when DJ Chris Martin is on. Also Last.fm is available for Britpop. You can type in Britpop and it will play you a mixture of popular britpop artists including Oasis, Richard Ashcroft, Ian Brown and The Stone Roses.
Here is a picture of Noel Gallagher, otherwise known as "God"

Britpop - TV & Films

The 3 most famous films including a britpop culture are: Trainspotting, The Full Monty and Lock Stock & two Smoking barrels. These films also have a britpop soundtrack. We know that they have a britpop culture because of the characters in the films.

There's Social Realism (kitchen sink dramas) and Britpop. Kitchen sink dramas are dramas related to British cultural movement. Usually the "Heroes" in kitchen sink dramas were Angry Young Men.

Britpop - Related Celebrities

Some celebrities related to britpop are actors such as James Buckley because he is into the britpop scene but is not a musician. He acted in the Inbetweeners where he played a character who also was a typical britpop lad.

Another related celebrity is Kate Moss because she was in a relationship with britpop icon Pete Doherty but they have now split.

Britpop - Clothing

For research into the britpop genre I have learnt about the style of clothing that britpop artists wear.

There is a particular label that specialise in britpop clothing called "Pretty Green". This brand was founded and designed by Liam Gallagher of Oasis. They sell mainly Polo Shirts, Denim Jeans, Parkas and knitwear.
Above is a picture of Liam Gallagher standing in front of the Pretty Green logo.
